Our Story – the 60 Journey

In 2015, 60 Degrees’ Directors Ishpal Bansal and Brad Bloom had a vision for a more responsible recruitment business. Having worked both in recruitment and resourcing both within agencies but also in large corporates , they wanted a business that not only had clients at the heart of what they did but moreover, supported its own people across their professional and personal lives and, crucially, acknowledges each of our candidates’ individual circumstances and career aspirations to ethically support your career transition.

Ishpal and Brad wanted to take everything they’d learnt from their long careers leading and managing internal client recruiting teams at the likes of Deloitte, RSA, Talk Talk, Carphone Warehouse, Aviva Insurance and Tyco UK to provide 60 Degrees’ clients and candidates with exceptional levels of service and advice, that fit their business and personal goals.

So, in mid-2015, 60 Degrees was born.

What’s in a name?

Why 60 Degrees?  We wanted something that was current and had meaning.  The name is based on the regions we cover: these run from 0 degrees to 60 degrees longitude.  From our hubs in London and Cape Town we offer candidates mobility across the UK, Middle East and Africa.  We bring expertise and regional knowledge to our clients operating in these geographies, or who may wish to enter an emerging market.

Ishpal is the Co-founder and Director here at 60 Degrees.  He’s an entrepreneur with broad experience and has been in the talent and resourcing industry since 2000. Ishpal is the steady hand that guides 60 Degrees, he loves to keep things simple and cut through complex problems.  He values people and believes in unlocking the potential in individuals and the benefit that creates for both organisations and society as a whole.

He is family man who is kept on this toes by his lively daughter.  A country boy at heart, he loves the great outdoors and happily swaps a hotel room for a camp bed for a bit of adventure. Ishpal is a world traveler, who is passionate about saving the planet one small step at a time.  He enjoys a good political debate, happily gets wrapped up in a good novel and fancies himself as a bit of a Masterchef (although, we have it on good authority from his wife that he only actually cooks twice a year!)

Brad is the Co-Founder and Director here at 60 Degrees.  He’s been in the talent and resourcing industry since 2003 and is passionate about our obligation to make a contribution to society and the planet.

He’s just recently become a dad in training, despite also being a beach bum wannabee – hopefully he’ll manage to combine the two soon enough.  Brad loves a good politics debate, especially over a fine glass of Scotch but, be careful, you’ll be in for a long night!  He also loves a live performance – whether a sporting event, music concert or theatre performance, he just can’t get enough – so if you want any tips on something good to do at the weekend, he’s your man.  He has a natural wit and the most contagious laugh you’ll ever hear!

Tam is the Head of Recruitment for 60 Degrees and leads up our Johannesburg office. Tam has been building her career in the recruitment industry since 2009 and joined the 60D team in 2019. She has a passion for recruitment and enhancing the performance of her teams.

When she is not chasing after her energetic little boy, she spends her time rejuvenating her soul at the pilates studio. Tam fancies herself a bit of a foodie and enjoys exploring new eateries both locally and on her travels. She has a competitive personality and will find good competition in just about anything, including a Saturday morning park run.

Andy is a Manager here at 60 Degrees. Motivated to make a difference and impact people’s lives through work, Andy joined the sector in 2015 and has never looked back. In 2017 60 Degrees welcomed Andy to the team. 60D is a home that Andy is genuinely passionate about and proud of, where we put people at the forefront of our business.

Two rescue mutts, a fiance’ and anything with an engine keep him busy when he’s not at work. He also attempts to keep in shape, but is often led astray by Emily for burger runs.

Emily is one of our Mangers. She started her recruitment career in 2010 where she specialised in IT and finance recruitment. In 2017 we welcomed Emily to our team. Her compassion and discipline have been incredibly valuable to the growth of 60 Degrees.

One can say Emily is the fittest person in the office. She casually runs really, really, long distances for fun and has recently started swimming really, really, long distances in open water. Her fuel of choice is chocolate & burgers, whilst listening to the one and only – Celine Dion. But above all this, Emily is one of three directors of the NPO Running4Pads. This is an organisation that raises awareness and funds for sanitary products for girls in Western Cape (South Africa).

Therese is one of our Senior Delivery Consultants here at 60 Degrees. She has been in the recruitment industry since 2015 and joined the 60 Degrees Team at the end of 2016.  Ever since she has been a key contributor to who we are today by making our first placements in Asia and the Middle East.

People are her passion and she finds great joy of improving the lives of others through work. Therese is our resident IT guru and often is found helping the team with any tech issues. When she is not hunting in the deep dark web for talent; Therese enjoys reconnecting with nature. She spends most weekends finding new remote camping sites where she can catch up on her reading.
